Submitting a Sitemap to Google just became even easier. No longer do you have to specify the Sitemap file type—we’ll determine the type of data you’re submitting automatically. Let’s take a quick look at the kinds of Sitemap files we support as well as the ways they can be submitted to us.

Sitemap file formats supported by Google

Part of what makes the web so interesting is that there are so many different kinds of content out there. Do you use videos on your website? If so, send us a Video Sitemap file so that we can send you visitors to those videos! Do you host source-code samples? Submit a Code Search Sitemap! Here are the various kinds of Sitemap files that Google supports at the moment:

XML Sitemap files for web pages – Use these files to submit all of your web pages (this is the preferred format for web pages). While not all search engines may support the Sitemap types listed below, the XML Sitemap for web pages is supported by all search engines of sitemaps.org.

RSS 2.0 and Atom 1.0 feeds for web pages – Many blogs create these automatically.

Text files with web page URLs – If you can’t automatically create one of the above formats, you can create a text file with your URLs in it.

XML Sitemap files for Video Search – Videos on your website can be indexed and made available for Google Video Search.

Media-RSS feeds for Video Search – mRSS feeds are used by various other systems, we can use these for Google Video Search as well.

XML Sitemap files for Google Code Search – If you make programming samples or code available to your users, you can submit these for Google Code Search.

XML Sitemap files for mobile web pages – Using this kind of format allows us to recognize content that has been optimized for mobile devices (please note that there was recently a small change in the format).

XML Sitemap files for geo-data – If you have geographic data on your website in the form of KML or GeoRSS files, please let us know about these files.

XML Sitemap files for News – News websites can submit their news content in this special Sitemap format (please note that you must first register with Google News before these files are processed).

If you have multiple Sitemap files that you wish to submit to Google, you can include up to 1,000 of these in an XML Sitemap Index file. If you have more than 1,000 Sitemap files, you can just submit multiple Sitemap Index files – we’d love to take them all!

Here are the steps you need to follow to successfully submit a sitemap to Google.

Be a verified webmaster at Google Webmasters

Submit the sitemap name at Google webmasters Tools
(Go to “Sitemaps” in Webmaster Tools and enter the file name of your Sitemap)

If you intend to create a business website, you should keep the requirements of your website visitors in mind. This is to ensure that your website visitors enjoy visiting your website and stay longer. The longer they stay, the higher the chances that they would buy something or perform some other desirable activity.

Fast Loading
Your website should load in 10 to 20 seconds on a dial up connection. For this purpose, the size of your web pages should be no more than 50 KB. This can be achieved if you optimize your graphics, or have minimum graphics on your web pages.

Navigation
The navigation of your website should be clear and consistent. Create a template for your website with a navigation menu containing important links, and use this template for all the web pages of your website. This would ensure that you have the same navigation menu in the entire website, and your website visitors would not be confused.

Compatible
Your website should be compatible with all the major browsers in the market. Most noteworthy browsers are Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer. These browsers can be downloaded for free from their websites. You can install both these browsers in your computer and view your site through them, to check if it is compatible.

Flash, Frames, Animations, Doorway pages
Flash presentations, animations, frames and doorway pages are not recommended for professional websites, as they highly interfere with the browsing experience and do not offer any real value or information to a website visitors. Please try to avoid using them in your business website.

Easy to read text
Use fonts that are easy to read. Do not use script fonts or italics on your web page. The font should also be of a suitable size, and not too small. The most recommended fonts for web use are Arial and Verdana.

Use of color
Do not use very bright colors that hurt the eyes. Also avoid using a dark background and light colored text. It is best to use a light colored preferably white background with black or very dark colored text. Also do not use multiple colors for your website design or text. This gives a very unprofessional look to a website.

Screen resolution
If possible your website should look good on all screen resolutions. Try to avoid having a horizontal scrolling bar, as it makes the website difficult to navigate.

These are some of the rules for good website design. You must have a well designed website which is easy to browse and read, so that your visitors or prospects enjoy browsing it and are impressed with it.

In the internet business, the domain name could be the beginning or the end of your business. Choosing your domain name wisely is essential to be ahead in the market. There are 2 types of domain names.

Keyword rich Product related domains For example, dailyseoblog.com, dailytips.com etc. These domains clearly give you an idea of what the website is all about from the domain name itself. They are keyword rich and often rank well for the keywords in the domain if the site is optimized well. These websites usually fare well with most search engines.

Brand named Domain names Yahoo for instance or Google is a brand name. The Name Google itself will not tell you what it is. But who doesn’t know Google and yahoo. Brand name domains are good once you are into brand marketing. It’s often a bad idea if you are a start up Website Company to invest into a brand name domain. It usually costs a lot for brand marketing and its altogether a different ball game.

When choosing a domain name, make it as keyword rich as possible and also as short as possible. A domain name like makemoneyontheinternet.com is a great domain name but considering its length, it could just be bad. Limit your domain name length to as little as 10 to 12 characters. This would make your domain look good with the search engines. Also take enough time to choose your domain extension. If your domain is a .com it will have more chances to be found. .com domains are more preferred and will benefit you on the long run.

Webmasters and online marketers generally prefer organic search traffic because it is free, conveys trust among visitors and potential buyers/shoppers, and generally results in greater conversions.

Well, meaningful organic search traffic can be achieved by attaining high placement in search engine results pages (SERPs) mainly google. And with many easy ways to improve your placement, you should start doing so today. Below are some easy tips to help you take advantage of organic search.

Choose Relevant and Highly Specialized Keywords
The internet is a large place, with millions of sites built for every type of audience and marketing every type of product. As a result, if you want your site to be found, it is in your best interests to use very descriptive keywords. For example, if your website sells Computer item, it is probably not a good idea to list Computer as one of your keywords. Instead, it might be better to use adjectives that you think web surfers might use to find you, such as low-priced computer,Laptops, Monitors, Motherboard, etc…

Include Keywords in Your URLs
Another easy way to highlight your keywords is to use them in your urls. Simply name each page using descriptive keywords. To use the shoe example, it would be helpful to name your pages in this manner:

http://www.kiran.in/2008/06/achieving-organic-seo/

http://www.kiran.in/2008/08/wordpress-261-released/

http://www.kiran.in/2008/08/download-free-beijing-olympics-2008-wallpaper/

While receiving traffic via organic search can give you high quality traffic at no cost, organic search traffic is not guaranteed
