Hosting your own blog is much better idea in every way, because if you host your blog anywhere else, being admin you will not be admin, there is fair chances of your blog getting deleted any point of time.
Apart from it, If you use blogspot, many sites dont support Blogspot as perfect platform , and so is many publisher sites.
I own a blogspot blog now and i understand the pain of not having my own blog.
