You have a couple of programs and application open, and happily going through your normal computing tasks. After a few minutes, you sit back, a window suddenly appeared, screaming. But it only appears when a program crashes.

“Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Please tell Microsoft about this problem”.

To disable Error reporting in Windows XP

  1. Right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop or in the Start menu and select “Properties” to open the System Properties window or On the Start menu, type sysdm.cpl at RUN
  2. Clicked the “Advanced” tab.
  3. Disable Error Reporting

  4. Click on the button labelled “Error Reporting” which is located at the bottom right of the System Properties window. The “Error Reporting” window should appear.
  5. Select the item labeled “Disable error reporting”. It is advisable to leave a tick in the check box that says “But notify me when critical errors occur“. If you need you can un-tick also.

  7. Click “OK” to exit the “Error Reporting” window and then click “OK” again to exit System Properties.

To Enable Error reporting in Windows XP

To enable error reporting again, navigate to the “Error Reporting” window as described above and select “Enable error reporting”.
